Fiorentina left Madrid with honour intact as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the European champions in the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy.

The Viola, taking part in the 38th edition of the trophy to mark the 60th anniversary of the 1957 European Cup final between the two sides, took an early lead as Jordan Veretout drilled in off the post from the edge of the box.

However, Zinedine Zidane's men were level within four minutes as Cristiano Ronaldo's low cross handed Borja Mayoral the easiest of tasks to finish from just three yards.

Davide Astori almost restored the visitors' advantage when he hit the bar in the 18th minute but instead it was Cristiano Ronaldo who stole the glory 15 minutes later, cutting inside from the left wing and curling an unstoppable finish into the top corner.
