Bigica previews Scudetto final: "The lads are determined to make up for last year"

Fiorentina U19 coach Emiliano Bigica believes the disappointment of losing last year's Scudetto final can give his players the incentive they need to go on and claim the trophy this year.

The Viola Primavera – coached by Bigica's predecessor Federico Guidi at the time – were beaten 2-1 by Inter at the end of the 2016/17 league campaign but now have the chance to set the record straight as they face the Nerazzurri in the final again this year.

"Fate has decided that the lads should be back here again, 12 months down the line, for another Scudetto final against the same team that beat them last year," Bigica began, speaking to the official Serie A TIM website ahead of Saturday's meeting at Mapei Stadium.

"A lot of them cried after last year's final and they're really determined to make up for it. I'm sure they'll have played that final through in their heads many times.

"You don't need to motivate your players for games like this so we've focused on preparing for it tactically."

The boss was also asked for an assessment of his first season in charge, as well as his thoughts on Saturday's opponents.

"Objectively speaking the last 10 months have been very good as we've reached two finals.

"What I admire about Inter is they are very pragmatic and determined. I hope my lads can show the same drive because if they do this could be the time we finally win a trophy to take home for our efforts."

The Primavera Scudetto final between Fiorentina and Inter kicks off at 20:45 CEST at Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia. The match will be broadcast live on Sportitalia, with Raisport showing a replay at 22:35.
