Biraghi: "Fans deserved that goal"

Cristiano Biraghi dedicated his stunning winner against Chievo Verona on Sunday to the Fiorentina fans, stating that they "deserved" the strike after a testing few weeks for the Viola.

"It was a nice goal," he said, speaking after the game. "I tried to shoot before when [Stefano] Sorrentino made a good save, but the second one went in. I’d like to dedicate the goal to the fans, who always stuck behind us even when we weren’t getting the results. They were always there, home and away – that was massive for us.

"I ran to the Fiesole because they’re the most passionate, die-hard fans. They’re the ones that travel to see us away from home – the suffer with us and celebrate with us too. They have Fiorentina inside of them so I wanted to share the moment with them, because they deserve it."

Biraghi stressed the importance of the 1-0 win over Chievo, which saw Fiorentina return to winning ways at the Franchi for the first time since December.

"I’m really pleased we got the win. It was really important because we hadn’t won at home in too long. We needed to give the fans something to smile about because they really deserve it. On a personal level, I’m happy to have scored because it secured the three points for the team."

The full-back refused to be drawn on the club’s objectives for the remainder of the season, however, preferring to focus on the present rather than looking too far down the line.

"As we said at the start of the season, we’re taking it game by game and we’ll continue to do that until the end of the campaign," he said. "We want to ensure we don’t make the mistake of turning up with the wrong attitude, as we have done in a couple of games. We’ll give everything we have and then at the end of the season we’ll take stock and look at the league table. Our priority is to give 110% on the pitch."
