Biraghi: "Opportunity missed"

Cristiano Biraghi branded Fiorentina’s 0-0 draw with Genoa an "opportunity missed" after the Viola failed to capitalise on defeats to their immediate Serie A rivals.

"We tried everything to score," said the Fiorentina left-back after the game. "We dominated them and tried to impose our game on them, though they did cause us problems at the start of the match. We’re disappointed that we didn’t score.

"They played the way they had to – 90% of teams that come to Florence play that way. We’re good at imposing our game at home and can force the opposition back into their box. We need to improve and show more decisiveness because we know that there’ll be plenty more of these games to come."

Biraghi expressed his disappointment that Fiorentina had failed to take the chance to make ground on the teams around them in the table, but called for the side to stay focused through the busy Christmas schedule.

"It’s an opportunity missed," he said. "We did everything we could to get the result. It was important that we got the three points today, especially given the results of the other teams. We need to push on as we have another important match coming up soon. We’ll look at what we did well and what we did not so well tomorrow and take it from there."
