Antonio Cincotta paid tribute to his Fiorentina Women’s FC team after they beat Juventus 1-0 to clinch the Italian Super Cup on Saturday.

"This win feels special – it’s deserved," said Cincotta, who has now won four trophies with the Viola following the Scudetto and two Coppa Italia titles. "I was desperate to win this trophy. We showed incredible fight. That’s what I wanted the girls to show, despite knowing that it was going to be a difficult final that we needed to analyse in detail.

"Our positioning was good in the first ten minutes. We changed the system and the girls responded well. It was an incredibly intense game – credit to the opposition who caused us problems."

Cincotta stressed that the achievement was even more impressive given the Viola’s packed schedule.

"The thing that makes me the happiest is the fact that the girls have stayed so focused despite the fixture list," he said. "It wasn’t easy for us to give 100% today after the Champions League, the away trip to Milan and international duty, not to mention the game against Chelsea in a few days."

The result is especially sweet for Cincotta, who saw the Viola miss out on the cup last season.

"We came close last season but Brescia deserved to win it," he said. "The emotional factor was significant today but we dealt with that – and that’s partly while this win feels a bit different. We’ve got the first trophy of the season and it means we’ve won everything there is to win in Italy, but we’re not going to stop here. We need to raise the bar.

"The club deserves credit for having brought in proper professionals to work with the girls. It’s right that these trophies go to people that have given a lot to the women’s game."
