Consistency key for Benassi

Marco Benassi admitted that consistency will be vital for Fiorentina this season after they built on last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Lazio with a 3-0 win over Sassuolo at the Franchi on Sunday.

"It was a vital win today because we’d not won for over a month, since the Torino game, so we were desperate to get it," he said. "In terms of our morale, it gets us up and running again and we can now go on and secure more points. Our aim is to become more consistent. We work hard all week and it has come good today. We’re pleased with the win but as of tomorrow we start focusing on our next game.

"We showed great spirit last Sunday. We played as a team for the whole game and deserved to get a draw. It gave us a morale boost and now we’ve built on that performance."

The win over Sassuolo saw three different players find the net for Stefano Pioli’s side, with Benassi stressing the importance of the collective at the club.

"The quality of our team play has to be our biggest strength this year," he said. "It’s not about individuals – and if an individual player does stand out then it’s because of the team. We want to continue doing what we’re doing: stick together, keep it tight and push in the same direction. The results will come."

Fiorentina face a tough trip to Napoli next Sunday, but Benassi believes the Viola can draw lessons from the battling performance against Lazio last week.

"We need to prepare well, as we always do," he said. "We know it’s going to be tough because Napoli are a great side. That said, we showed we could dig in last Sunday. We kept it tight right until the death and that’s what we have to do against Napoli."
