Bryan Dabo spoke of his pride at joining Fiorentina as he was unveiled as a Viola player at a news conference on Thursday.

"It was an easy decision to make," he said, recounting the moment he found out Fiorentina were interested. "I was an important player at Saint-Etienne and I played a lot, so I wasn’t expecting anything to happen in this transfer window. I couldn’t believe it when the offer came in. I’d made my mind up inside an hour. In France, Fiorentina are seen as one of the biggest teams in Italy, like Inter, AC Milan and Juve, so I’m delighted."

Dabo will link up with friends Jordan Veretout and Valentin Eysseric in Florence – and the midfielder is confident the French connection will help him to settle in quickly.

"I’ve spoken with Jordan because we played together and I spoke to Valentin Eysseric too, because we come from the same town," he said. "We played together when we were younger. They spoke very highly of the city and gave me lots of advice. I spoke to the sporting director and coach and, having seen how intense the training is here, I’m sure that everything is going to go well.

"I think speaking the language is a really important part of integrating into a team, so it’s something I what to do as soon as possible. I can understand when you speak slowly, so I don’t think I’ll have too many problems."

Dabo also revealed his preferred position, though was keen to stress his willingness to play wherever Stefano Pioli wants him.

"I’ve always played as a central midfielder," he said. "I’m comfortable playing in a midfield three or a little further forward, in the No.8 role. I’m flexible and can adapt to different positions. I’ve spoken with the coach and he’ll help me to flourish as a central midfielder. I’m a bit of a box-to-box player but I’m happy to adapt."
