The Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella has invited the people of Florence to observe a minute’s silence at work and school on Thursday at 13:00 CET as part of a day of citywide mourning to coincide with the funeral of the late Fiorentina captain Davide Astori.

Flags will fly at half mast on public buildings, while public transport and other public service vehicles will carry messages of support for Astori.

Astori’s funeral will take place at the Basilica di Santa Croce in Florence at 10:00 CET on Thursday.

The minute’s silence has been set for 13:00 CET in reference to Astori’s shirt number at Fiorentina (No.13). Nardella has invited people to take a ten-minute pause from their work and asked schools to encourage their students to take a few moments to reflect on the values connected with sport and football in general.
