New Fiorentina defender Bruno Gaspar promised to prove himself as a player at the Stadio Artemio Franchi as he appeared at a press conference in Moena alongside club manager Giancarlo Antognoni.

"I received several offers, but Fiorentina was always my first choice. I wanted to come to Florence to prove myself," said the Portuguese.

Antognoni was there to introduce Gaspar: "He is a 24-year-old right-back who’s technically gifted and quick. He’s played on the right side of midfield too. He began his career at Benfica and has made a number of appearances for the Portuguese national youth teams."

Gaspar revealed that he is settling into life in Italy well.

"I’m adapting to Italian football," he said. "I think I’m quite a complete player, but I can improve in a number of areas, especially my positioning on the field from a tactical perspective."

The new Viola signing – who confirmed that he had spoken to neither Rui Costa nor Paulo Sousa before joining the club – did say that he’d discussed the move with two fellow players.

"I spoke with Mario Rui and Bruno Fernandes before signing and they told me that the key in Serie A is ensuring a high tempo to your play," he revealed. "Tactically, the Portuguese league is different to Serie A. I look up to Dani Alves."
