New Fiorentina signing Pedro spoke of his happiness at joining the Viola as he was formally unveiled to the media in a press conference at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Wednesday.

“I’m delighted to be at such a big club as Fiorentina,” said the Brazilian forward. “I’d like to thank president Commisso, Joe Barone and Daniele Prade for their confidence in me. I also want to thank my family and agent – I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.”

Pedro pinpointed Fiorentina’s traditions as a club – and some of the Brazilians that have passed through Florence in the past – as playing a key role in his decision to join the Viola.

“I was delighted when my agent told me about Fiorentina’s interest because it’s a club with great traditions,” he said. “Other Brazilian players such as Edmundo and Dunga have played here, too. Fiorentina are building a great team so I hope to have a big season here.”

The Brazilian will wear the No.9 jersey for Fiorentina this season, but is unfazed about the pressure of playing with such a historic number on his back.

“The No.9 shirt is very important here – it was the shirt worn by Batistuta, who is an idol around here,” he said. “I’m starting my own journey here and I want to achieve big things here at Fiorentina with the No.9 shirt.”

Pedro went on to confirm that he is fit and raring to get started with his new team-mates.

“I feel good physically,” he said. “I had a minor injury recently with Fluminense but I’ve recovered and I feel ready to play, but it’s up to the coach whether to pick me at the weekend. I’ve only just arrive but I feel ready to play with my team-mates. My aim is to work hard and try to win something with this club.”

Pedro also explained more about his playing style for fans who may not have seen him in action.

“Like all strikers, I like scoring goals – I live for that,” he said. “But I also like dropping deeper and opening up the space for my team-mates. There’s a lot of movement to my game. I want to improve here and develop alongside my team-mates.
