Pioli backs Fiorentina desire despite draw

Stefano Pioli insisted that his Fiorentina side threw everything at Bologna as they were held to a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Dall’Ara on Sunday afternoon.

"We did everything to win the game – everything," said the Viola coach after the game. "From start to finish, we were alert, ready, determined. We showed quality, created a lot and had lots of shots on goal. We’re lacking that last step, the right decision at the right time, the finish.

"That said, if we play like that we’ll definitely score and get back to winning ways soon. In the majority of cases, it’s the performance that determines the result. Today the result doesn’t reflect the way we played but we need to keep going."

Fiorentina are without a win in six, but Pioli was keen to put a positive slant on the Viola’s form.

"It’s a tough league this season and Bologna made it hard for us today," he said. "Bologna are a tough side – they’re difficult to play against. We’re unbeaten in five, which isn’t easy in Italy. Even when we’ve lost, we’ve always matched our opponents. It was only one half against Torino that we struggled in. In every other game we’ve played like we did today – with the right desire and mentality. The lads need to keep their heads up, keep working and keep believing in what they’re doing."
