Pjaca: "I only ever wanted Fiorentina"

Marko Pjaca revealed he never considered signing for any other clubs as he was unveiled as a Fiorentina player on Thursday.

"It was a long one but I wanted to come here from the start," said the Croatian. "I’m happy to be here and I can’t wait to start playing. I want to play and I want to help the team to have a good season. That’s my main objective here."

Pjaca will be one of the biggest draws at the Franchi this season – but the winger is not fazed by the expectations.

"It’s a responsibility and gives me even more motivation for me to perform well in training," he said. "I’ll give my all to do well here and ensure we have a good season."

The new Fiorentina No.10 also dismissed questions about his fitness following a long summer at the World Cup.

"I’m ready," he said. "The fitness will come with the games. I don’t know whether it’ll take two, three or four matches, but I’m ready. The World Cup was incredible. It was a unique experience that I’ll never forget."

Pjaca pointed to the tactical side of the Italian game as the biggest lesson he learned during his time at champions Juventus.

"I think tactics is the most important thing in Italy and that was what I learned over my year and a half at Juve," he said. "That said, football is football. It’s not that different in Croatia or other leagues, so I’m sure I can do well here."

The Croatian also confirmed he spoke with former Fiorentina man Milan Badelj about life in Florence before making the move to Tuscany.

"Milan spoke very highly of the club, the team, the city and the fans," he said. "He helped me decide to come here."

Pjaca also gave short thrift to suggestions he might have been tempted to stay at Juventus and test his mettle alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I have to focus on my own career, not his," he said. "I need to be playing – that’s the most important thing for a player."
