Primavera: Fiorentina slip to heavy home defeat against Genoa

Fiorentina Primavera’s five-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday as they were beaten 4-0 by Genoa at home.

Genoa took the lead just before the half-hour mark as Verona Grönberg slotted home after a smart breakaway from the visitors, with Klimavicius doubling Genoa’s lead ten minutes later despite Chiorra getting something on his shot.

Moro headed home on 41 minutes to give Genoa a 3-0 lead going into half time, while any second-half reaction Emiliano Bigica would have demanded from his players was undermined as Klimavicius pounced on a defensive error to grab his second and Genoa’s fourth seconds after the restart.

“This is a heavy defeat but although the scoreline may suggest only negatives, I don’t see it that way: we did well in the second half and had a good half an hour,” said Bigica after the game. “Things are going against us more than they should at the moment and that was enough to kill any team’s spirit. We tried to pick ourselves up and get through the game in the second half, but again we were made to pay. The match got away from us but the lads did put the effort in so I can’t criticise them from that respect.”

The result leaves Fiorentina on 10 points for the season, with a trip to Brescia next time out after the international break.
