Giovanni Simeone insisted that Fiorentina are aiming high this season after his first-half header sparked a 3-0 win over Sassuolo at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday.

"We’re a young team, but we’re determined to achieve big things," he said. "This is a big three points – we’ve followed up the point we got against Lazio. We’re getting better and better and you can see that in every match. That’s the most important thing."

The goal came on Simeone’s 50th appearance in Serie A, with the Argentine striker reiterating his ambitions for the season ahead.

"I’m delighted to have reached 50 Serie A games," he said. "It really motivates me to push even harder. I’ve had some good performances and I’m very happy to have reached the 50 mark. I hope to add to that tally, get more minutes and build more experience, because that’s what will enable me to score more goals.

"I want to dedicate the goal to the team, the coaching staff and the boss, who is always talking to me and boosting my confidence. I have lots of people behind me who help me through the good times and the bad – especially the bad! I dedicate it to them – they know who they are."

Simeone has now scored more headed goals than any other player in Serie A this season, but was quick to credit those supplying the ammunition as the main reason behind his success.

"My team-mates who supply the crosses are the most important thing," he said. "Laurini and Biraghi always look for the space I try to play in. I like heading the ball but they played well too. Thereau produced a good ball that allowed me to score with my head."
