Cup Winners Cup 1961
1960-61
With victory in the final against Glasgow Rangers Fiorentina, coached that year be Hidegkuti (the Hungarian hero of the 1954 World Cup), clinched their first international success.
The Viola, after having knocked out Luzern in the quarter-finals and Dinamo Zagreb in the semi-finals, played the two leg final against the Scottish side. On May 17th in Glasgow, two goals for Luigi Milan set the score on 2-0. The return leg at the Franchi stadium saw another goal by Milan and the temporary equaliser by Scott, before Kurt Hamrin set the final score of 2-1.
Just like that the Viola won the first Cup Winners Cup of their history.
