Cincotta previews first game of 2020 at Orobica: "Pressure a good thing"

The women's Serie A starts up again this weekend after the winter break with Fiorentina making the trip to Orobica Bergamo for their 11th match of the season – the last before the campaign reaches the midway point.

The Viola's Week 11 fixture kicks off at 14:30 CET on Saturday and will be shown live on Fiorentina Women’s FC Facebook page.

Speaking ahead of the game, Antonio Cincotta noted that, unlike his own side, Saturday's opponents – who currently prop up the bottom of the Serie A table – have made lots of changes lately.

“The Orobica team we'll be up against is completely different to the side that started the season,” the coach began. “They've brought in lots of new foreign players who I'm sure will help shake them up a bit. We must be fully focused.”

The boss is aware that Fiorentina have little margin for error as they go into the weekend trailing leaders Juventus by six points and sit just above Roma and AC Milan (the latter have a match in hand) but insists that is not a problem for his team.

“We're used to being under pressure – we probably wouldn't be complete without it. You can't achieve success if you can't handle the pressure. Our fans are always right behind us and they help us to overcome our fears.”

The Christmas break helped to clear the treatment room meaning the coach now has a near-full squad to choose from and he urged his side to maintain their recent form going into a month of games until the next international break.

“We need to work hard and be humble in every second of every training session. I didn't want to make any major changes to the squad to show confidence in the girls and motivate them. Now it's up to them to repay that faith by picking up from where they left off in 2019 – playing top-notch football. That's the only way forward.”

After the game against Orobica, a Tuscany derby awaits with Fiorentia set to visit the Stadio Bozzi on Sunday 19 January (12:30 CET).
