Fiorentina Women’s FC secured a 4-2 win over Florentia on Sunday to put last week’s defeat to Juventus behind them at the first time of asking.

The Viola twice took the lead in the first half through Vigilucci and then Jaques, but twice Florentia rallied to level the scores on 23 minutes. Guagni made it 3-2 to Fiorentina on 36 minutes, before Mauro put the result beyond doubt with a goal ten minutes from time.

“It wasn’t easy to start again after the defeat at the Stadium, especially in a derby like this,” said coach Antonio Cincotta after the game. “The girls did well – we’re there and we’ll keep going until the end. It was vital that we went back into second place. As I’ve said, the league will be decided in April because it’s very finely balanced – let’s take it one match at a time from now until the end of the season.”

Alia Guagni also gave her take on the game.

“The derby is always a difficult game, but we prepared well and played excellently,” she said. “We have an intense month coming up, with Orobica and two games against Roma. We believe – we want to stay up there until the end and we’ll be determined in every game.”
