Fiorentina Women’s FC beat rivals AC Milan 4-0 on Saturday to move within two points of the Rossonere in second place and keep in touch with leaders Juventus.

The Viola took the lead on 35 minutes after Laura Fusetti conceded a penalty for a foul on Tatiana Bonetti, with the AC Milan defender also being shown a red card by the referee. Alice Parisi made no mistake from the spot to give Fiorentina a 1-0 lead.

Fiorentina doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half, as Bonetti collected a miskick from visiting goalkeeper Maria Korenciova before coolly slotting home. And Bonetti had her second – and the Viola’s third – on 75 minutes as the striker finished off a flowing attacking move from the Viola, before Alia Guagni completed the 4-0 rout with a calm finish two minutes later.

“I’m delighted both personally and for the team because it was one of our best performances today,” said Bonetti after the game. “We can’t afford to slip up – we need to go into every game as if it were a final if we’re going to overtake the teams ahead of us.”

Coach Antonio Cincotta heaped praise on his team after the win.

“This win takes us closer to the top of the table – beating a direct rival shows that Fiorentina are second to no team,” he said. “The fact that we had three different scorers shows that there’s real cohesion to our play – we’re not relying on one player to score the goals.”
