Fiorentina’s Women’s FC will take part in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League – their fourth appearance in the competition in as many seasons – following an announcement from FIGC today.

The Italian FA has officially brought the 2019/20 Women’s Serie A campaign to an end, confirming Fiorentina as the runners-up behind Juventus. Tavagnacco and Orobica have been relegated from Serie A, with Napoli and San Marino winning promotion from Serie B. Novese and Perugia have been relegated from to Serie C from Serie B.

FIGC president Gabriele Gravina also announced measures designed to make women’s football professional in Italy as of the 2022/23 season. The proposals were unanimously accepted by the FIGC Council.

The council went on to agree that the 2020/21 season will begin on 22 August, in order to accommodate European Championship qualifications matches scheduled for September. There will be 14 teams in the coming Serie B season – which will begin on 13 September – in order to allow every Serie C group to promote one team. Two teams will be promoted to Serie A from Serie B, with four being relegated to Serie C.

The Coppa Italia has been expanded to include a total of 26 participants, while the top four in the 2019/20 Serie A season will take part in a new-look Italian Super Cup.
