Fiorentina Women’s FC go top with 1-0 win away at Tavagnacco

Fiorentina Women’s FC are top of Serie A after a 1-0 win away at Tavagnacco on Saturday.

The Viola got the win thanks to a Tatiana Bonetti goal on seven minutes, with Ilaria Mauro teeing up her team-mate for 1-0.

“The result is too tight given the quality of our performance, especially seeing as we created nine clear-cut chances,” said coach Antonio Cincotta after the game. “We need to use this as motivation to work hard and improve. We imposed our game on our opponents and created lots of chances, so we need to use that as a foundation to kick on from.

“The team is on top form right now – we’re top of the table having been seven points behind, which looked virtually impossible, without big players like Parisi, Kostova and Clelland. I’m not surprised that we’ve gone top, given the quality the girls show in training. Our stats are very impressive: great stats from great players.”

Fiorentina will now wait to see the outcome of the match between Juventus and AC Milan on Sunday.

“We’ve done our job by putting the side back where we’ve not been in two years,” said Cincotta. “Now it’s up to them. Fiorentina are top tonight. It might be different tomorrow but as of Monday all we’ll be focusing on is the next game.”

Alice Parisi also gave her take on the game.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game,” she said. “Winning the way we have shows our maturity. We’ve hit our target ahead of the break – as of tomorrow, we focus on the Coppa Italia. We’ve been working to hit top form since July. Every time we win, we raise the bar that little bit further – we never feel like we’ve made it. It’s great to be top – let’s enjoy a well-deserved 24 hours in top spot, then we’ll see what happens between Juventus and AC Milan.”
