Marcos Alonso joins the Viola

ACF Fiorentina has signed Spanish wing-back Marcos Alonso Mendoza. The 22-year-old, born in Madrid on 28 December 1990, spent last season at Bolton Wanderers. He has signed a three-year deal with the Viola that expires on 30 June 2016.

Alonso just missed out on a play-off spot in the Championship after finishing 7th in England's second tier. The attacking left-back played 26 times for Bolton and chipped in with four goals: he takes a great free kick and is also a decent header of the ball.

His granddad was part of the Real Madrid side that beat Fiorentina in the 1957 European Cup final, while his father spent a number of seasons in the Spanish Liga including time at Barcelona.

There's no doubt he's got football in his blood as well as significant room for improvement, so he can only do well in a Fiorentina team with a swelling Spanish contingent.

The player will be presented to the press in due course but in the meantime Alonso has passed his medical and been given the all-clear to sign his contract. He can look forward to being part of Vincenzo Montella's Fiorentina from 1 July 2013.
