Fiorentina Primavera take 2-0 first-leg lead in Coppa Italia final

Dusan Vlahovic scored twice to give Fiorentina Primavera a 2-0 win in the first leg of the Coppa Italia final against Torino at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Friday.

The Viola took the lead on 43 minutes after Vlahovic smashed into the top corner from the penalty spot, with the 19-year-old striking again with 12 minutes of the game remaining to put Fiorentina into a dominant position going into the second leg.

“We were focused and determined, which is what the coach wanted,” said Vlahovic after the game. “I think we deserved the win. Torino are a good side but we are too and we gave everything we had to win the first leg.

“I want to thank my team-mates, the coach and the fans who came out tonight. We need to win the second leg now and bring the trophy back to Florence.”

Viola boss Emiliano Bigica praised his team after their first-leg win.

“I asked them to produce a proper performance in a proper stadium and they did that,” he said. “Our passing game was a little stilted at the start but that’s to be expected – these lads aren’t used to playing in front of so many fans at such a big stadium. We needed to show patience and we did. We waited for the right moment to strike at Torino.”

Nonetheless, the coach did concede that Fiorentina still have room for improvement.

“I was really angry about that late chance we conceded because a goal could have ruined a well-prepared, well-executed performance,” he said. “We need to work on that and improve – it’s important to show good game management in the closing stages.”

Bigica also insisted that Fiorentina still have work to do if they are to secure the trophy.

“It will be a very difficult game, but we know what to expect,” he said. “There are always a lot of fans when we go to play them. It will be a great experience for all the players who play – it will show who has what it takes for the senior game.”
